(Vertical Velocity)
The Vertical Velocity Roller Coaster is different than other roller coasters, instead of going over hills, it starts by shooting out of the loading platform and climbing half way up the spiral hill. Then the coaster falls weightless back down the hill and as it passes through the loading platform it gains more velocity and shoots verticaly back up the other hill.
Now you are looking down at the ground and the coaster is headed straight down. As you race through the loading platform, the coaster gains enough velocity to climb and spiral all the way to the top of the other hill.
Liseberg has AtmosFEAR
The Swedish amusement park Liseberg is to transform its observation tower into Europe’s tallest freefall attraction. The conversion will be carried out by Intamin.
The Liseberg Tower opened at the Gothenburg city park in 1990 and has provided a comfortable lookout for millions of guests. Now it will provide a totally different ride experience in the shape of AtmosFEAR.
Towering 146-metres above sea level, riders will board the new look attraction via an underground loading station, from where it takes just 100 seconds to reach the top. The return journey is somewhat faster – a three second freefall! Passengers plummet back down at up to 110km, subjected to forces of 4G during braking.
Liseberg visitors were offered free rides on the attraction during its last days as an observation tower. Transformation work was scheduled to begin on May 31 ahead of a Spring 2011 opening.
The only other freefall tower on this scale is The Giant Drop at Dreamworld in Australia, also by Intamin/Ride Trade.
Parques Reunidos buys Movie Park
Palamon Capital Partners has sold Movie Park in Germany, the one remaining asset in its Star Park group, to the Spanish operator Parques Reunidos. The purchase price is undisclosed.
Located near the town of Bottrop, about an hour from Düsseldorf, Movie Park is Germany's third largest theme park. Palamon acquired the property from Six Flags in 2004 when it acquired the American operator’s European portfolio of attractions and formed Star Parks. Most of the other parks, including several Walibi-branded properties, have since been sold to Compagnie des Alpes.
At Movie Park, Star Parks’ management team embarked on an aggressive plan to make the park more family focused, introducing the Nick Land branded children’s area among other investments. The result was a 40% increase in attendance, and an almost 50% leap in revenue. The sale of the park delivers an overall return on Palamon’s investment in Star Parks to 2.3x.
“It has been an exciting time working in partnership with Palamon to implement a family-oriented theme park strategy and very rewarding to see Movie Park Germany come into its own,” comments Star Parks CEO, Bill Muirhead.
Once known as Warner Bros Movie World, Movie Park is now part of the same group as Parque Warner Madrid.
World's Most Popular Amusement Parks
Sixty-foot vertical drops and $45 admission tickets are old news. Today, the steepest thing in the amusement industry is the growth of spending in Asia.
The U.S. theme park industry, once a rocketing roller coaster, is looking more and more like a lazy turn on the Ferris wheel. Amusement park sales in the U.S. are forecast to grow from $10.8 billion to $12.9 billion between 2005 and 2009, according to a recent study by PricewaterhouseCoopers. That's an average annual growth rate of 3.9%--sluggish compared to the 5.5% the industry experienced between 1999 and 2000.
Meanwhile, the Asia/Pacific theme park market will balloon from $6.1 billion to $8.1 billion, an average annual growth rate of 5.7%. And the amusement industry in Europe, the Middle East and Africa combined will grow about 5% per year, reaching $5 billion by 2009.

Ride Guide 2010 Theme Parks
The economy, at least at the beginning of 2010, is still on its roller coaster journey. While economists, politicians, and cash-strapped theme park fans hope the financial situation rebounds, how has it affected the actual roller coasters at theme parks? The good news is that there will be some coasters and other attractions debuting at theme parks and amusement parks this season. And a certain boy wizard is sure to attract huge crowds to Florida this year--no matter how badly the economy casts its gloomy spell.
The guide is arranged alphabetically by U.S. state. Canada
The economy, at least at the beginning of 2010, is still on its roller coaster journey. While economists, politicians, and cash-strapped coaster fans hope the financial situation rebounds, wary park owners have put the brakes on many coaster projects. Still, there will be a few coasters rolling into the U.S. this season--including a couple designed to intimidate you. Note that many of the "new" coasters are existing rides that are being transplanted from other parks. Beyond the U.S., the race for fastest coaster bragging rights is heating up.
The guide is arranged alphabetically by U.S. state. Select coasters at parks beyond the U.S. follow at the end of the guide.

Kentucky Rumbler Redefining The Classic Wooden Roller Coaster
With the popularity of hybrid wooden coasters, those constructed with a steel structure instead of wood or the newest variation built with a pre-fabricated wood track, many roller coaster fans have been wondering if those constructed entirely of wood are going to be a thing of the past.
It's not that fans don't enjoy the new variations, some of which have recieved rave reviews and won awards like The Voyage at Holiday World or El Toro at Six Flags Great Adventure. What concerns them is the possible loss of the past. Are we losing, some part of Americana? Is the true wood roller coaster fading away to be replaced by the newer variation?
Well "woodie fans" you need not worry, the designers of all wood roller coasters have not disappeared. Instead they've been hard at work in Sunbury, Pennsylvania designing a new thrilling attraction for Kentucky's Beech Bend Park.

This is some edited clips of the Skyrocket roller coaster in 1928 at Palisades Amusement Park in Cliffside, NJ. Also edited in a few seconds of Cyclone clips from the 1960's to complete the circuit. Then you will see some clips of the 1935 fire that destroyed part of the park. The huge Safety Coaster can be seen in the background. I reversed the clip to show it again, hence the man running backwards. Incredible footage. Enjoy.

Korea¡ 's Gardens at the Height of Their Seasonal Glory
The Chollipo Arboretum in Taean, South Chungcheong, considered Korea¡¯s first private arboretum, has about 12,000 species of plants - the most of any single arboretum in the country. [JoongAng Ilbo]
When you need a distraction from your daily routine, maybe you meet a few friends and chat with them over a nice cup of tea, go to the movies, or have fun at an amusement park. But this time of the year, perhaps you should consider heading outside, to enjoy Seoul¡¯s arboretums and botanical gardens at the peak of their seasonal beauty.
Season of the iris
In particular, you could head out to see the iris, which is in full bloom in May and June. As its name, which means ¡°rainbow¡± in Greek, implies, the iris comes in a nearly endless palette of colors. And there¡¯s a staggering variety on display at the Seoul Iris Garden, nestled between Mount Dobong and Mount Surak in northern Seoul. The garden, operated by the Seoul city government, stretches over 52,000 square meters (560,000 square feet) and is home to 130 species of iris, 78 species of herbs and 57 species of trees.
The facility celebrates its first anniversary on June 7
¡°When we just opened, the visitors were mostly residents of this neighborhood, but these days there are an increasing number of outside visitors, particularly those who visit this area for mountain climbing,¡± said Lee Yeon-jung, the Seoul government official in charge of managing the garden.
¡°Here you can see not only irises, but also various kinds of herbs, which is why we have a group of school kids coming to learn about the diversity of plants and nature.¡±
At Yoo Botanic Garden, a variety of trees and plants are arranged according to themes, stretching from the bottom of a slope up through the hills. But the focus is on the iris. [JoongAng Ilbo]
Yoon Pyung-hee, 64, described the Seoul Iris Garden as a haven for those weary of the busy city life.
¡°I have been a regular visitor here since its opening last year, and today I have brought some of my friends to show them there is a nice place like this,¡± said Yoon, a resident of Dobong, who visited the garden late Thursday afternoon with several friends her age after climbing Mount Dobong together.
¡°I¡¯m glad that we have such a place as this in Seoul. I had lived in Jamsil until I moved to this area a couple of years ago, and I just love this area with mountains and places like this where I can enjoy nature,¡± she added.
¡°Our first official event since the opening last year was the Iris Festival, which was held last weekend. While there are no other events currently in the pipeline, we will come up with more diverse events in coming years to let more people know about this place,¡± said Lee at the Seoul Iris Garden.
Though the Iris Festival has ended, visitors will still be able to enjoy the splendid flowers near the garden¡¯s ponds until late June. The best way to reach the garden is by subway. It¡¯s located right across the street from exit 2 of Dobongsan Station, lines No. 1 or 7, and it¡¯s open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, call (02) 954-0031.
No longer members only
The Chollipo Arboretum in Taean, South Chungcheong was established in 1970 by the late Min Byung-gal, an American who was naturalized as a Korean in 1979. It was designated as an arboretum of merit by the International Dendrology Society in 2000, the first in Asia and only the 12th in the world.
The arboretum has about 12,000 species of plants - the most at any single arboretum in the country. Chollipo, considered Korea¡¯s first private arboretum, was opened to members only until March 1 last year, when its doors were opened to the public.
Amusement Parks Bank on Sunshine
You think you've enjoyed the summerlike weather this week? Probably not as much as the leaders of Ohio's outdoor attractions.
With memories of last year's cool, overcast summer still fresh, people like John Gannon, general manager of Zoombezi Bay, are gearing up for what they hope will be a sunny and profitable summer.
Water parks are foremost among the outdoor attractions that live or die by the weather forecast. So influential is the forecast, Gannon said, that it's a better determinant of how many people will visit than the actual weather.
"If the forecast is 78 and sunny, not as many people will come out. People like to see that '8,' " he said, as in 80 degrees or better. "People believe the forecast more than their own eyes," he said, adding that they've joked about sponsoring local forecasts and trying to influence them by a degree or two.
If forecasts hold true over the weekend, "this will be better than any seven-day stretch we had all last summer," said Gannon, who also oversees revenue and operations for the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, which like the water park is located in the Powell area.
Gannon practically shudders when he talks about last July, which was particularly unkind to his business.
"The four Saturdays in July last year were all cool and overcast or rainy," he said. "The warmest Saturday, which was July 4, was 73 degrees."
Zoombezi Bay normally opens at 10:30 a.m. At 11 each morning, Gannon holds a meeting to evaluate staffing for the day - which again is influenced by the weather.
"We can normally predict within a couple hundred people how many people we'll get by the end of the day," he said. "Because we work with a lot of young people, there are always volunteers to go home early. If we see it's going to be a great day, we have phone lists of people to call to come in."
Hot and sunny days can bring 8,000 people or more to the park; a cooler or overcast day can mean a fraction of that.
Next door at the zoo, key leaders meet every Tuesday morning to plan for the coming week, and weather is just one of several factors to be considered.
"We base our attendance projections on a lot of history: when holidays fall, when schools are out or in," said Dale Schmidt, executive director of the Columbus Zoo. "By October or November, our predictions are finalized for the next summer, and we're normally within a 5 to 7 percent accuracy range. But weather is the big variable that you can't know in advance. It's an add-in or subtract-out factor in our attendance."
Schmidt, who worked for years in the coastal states of Florida and Oregon before coming to Columbus, has his own theory about the outlook for this summer's weather: It should be a great summer because of the El Nino effect.
Areas bordering the ocean often dread El Nino, a seasonal weather phenomenon that's credited with bringing severe storms in the years it appears. But in the Midwest, Schmidt said, an El Nino summer tends to bring with it warm but mild weather, perfect for people to explore the zoo.
Regardless, the zoo is likely headed toward its fifth year in a row of record-setting attendance, meaning visitors could top 2 million for the first time. Marketing director Pete Fingerhut said early this week that the zoo was already more than 100,000 visitors ahead of projections and expects the new $20 million Polar Frontier exhibit to drive big crowds this summer.
Other outdoor attractions in Ohio say they're not quite as weather-dependent since they're regional destinations and sell many of their tickets in advance to groups. Kings Island spokesman Don Helbig said weather mostly affects whether people go to Boomerang Bay, the water park within the Cincinnati-area amusement park.
"You pretty much know what you'll get in southern Ohio in the summer. Weather doesn't typically affect our staffing, because we only close if there's severe weather," Helbig said. Where theme parks may take a hit, he said, is from season-ticket holders who live close by who may decide against visiting - and buying snacks and souvenirs - if the forecast calls for rain.
Some attractions actually encourage people to go play in the rain.
Julieann Eckel, co-owner of Hocking Hills Canopy Tours, said the company's zip-line tours - which take participants on a high-speed pulley-and-cable trip among the treetops - operate rain or shine. They'll suspend operations when there is lightning or "torrential" rain.
"We get a lot of people when it's sprinkling outside saying they want to cancel," Eckel said. "I tell them, 'Remember when you were 5 years old and the best thing in the world was going out to play in the rain?' I say, 'We're not canceling the tour, you can either come or not.'
"People say, 'This is going to suck, I can't believe I'm going out in the rain.' But most of them end up having a blast. A little rain makes you go faster on the lines, too."
Gannon, meanwhile, admits he'll remain obsessed with warm, sunny days until Labor Day, when Zoombezi Bay closes.
"My wife is just really sick of me watching the Weather Channel. My TV is set to come on to it," Gannon said. "People ask me how I am, and I'll talk for 10 minutes about the weather. I have to be reminded that it's really just a rhetorical question."

Luna Park Opens At Coney Lsland
Historic Coney Island amusement park in Brooklyn has gotten an update, just in time for the summer season.
Saturday marks the grand opening of Luna Park at Coney Island, featuring 19 state-of-the-art rides.
One thriller, "Air Race," makes its world debut here. The attraction promises riders an experience similar to that of fighter pilots, flipping them upside-down and generating strong G-forces.
Luna Park, on about 3 acres on the former Astroland site, has no admission fee. Rides run $3-$7; wristbands costing $26 on weekdays and $30 on weekends give four hours of unlimited rides.
The second phase of the updated Coney opens in 2011, with two custom roller coasters, a "human slingshot" attraction and go-karts.
Meanwhile, Six Flags America near Baltimore and Washington, D.C., celebrates the grand opening of Thomas Town, a family area based on popular Thomas the Tank Engine, on June 5.
It boasts more than a half-dozen rides and attractions, including a replica of Thomas the Tank Engine that takes guests on a spin through Thomas' home on the Island of Sodor.
Other rides on the 3 1/2-acre addition include Bertie the Bus, Harold the Helicopter and a Cranky the Crane drop tower. Thomas Town includes a multistory play structure.

Rockstar's Westworld
I am currently having more fun playing Red Dead Redemption than any other open world game in recent memory, and certainly more fun than I've had with a Rockstar game in several years. The last Rockstar game that felt similar was Grand Thief Auto: San Andreas, largely because of its heavy emphasis on role-playing elements. Grand Theft Auto IV was marketed as if it were a role-playing experience, but it didn't have San Andreas's benefit of a clear genre reference to build its various game systems off of and give them coherence. The clarity with which Redemption identifies itself as a Western, and the surprising extent to which it allows that to inform its world design, puts it head-and-shoulders above every other Rockstar game. Though it suffers from some vestigial design conventions inherited from GTA (mostly having to do with GTA's open world strategy of being a theme park rather than a holistic world simulation) it offers the player more choices, more expressive ways of behaving, than many open world games.
What's striking about Redemption is how unlike GTA it is, in spite of following a lot of the same conventions. It's pretty ironic, considering the associations of Westerns with guns and violence, that Redemption is one of the least violence-centered open world games I've played... even less, I feel, than RPGs like Fallout 3 or platformers like inFAMOUS. The fact of the matter is in the world of Red Dead Redemption there is a whole hell of a lot to do that doesn't involve killing people. I spent the first several hours of my game simply hanging out on a ranch, learning to tame horses, herd cattle, hunt, trade, forage, play cards with the locals, and in general just enjoy the beautiful countryside. I've heard the first few hours of the game criticized as "slow", but I wonder if this is just because no one asks you to kill people until a good while in. The only violence I engaged in (not counting hunting) in my first few hours was night watchman duty for a small ranch, where I was delighted to discover that killing was only one tool in my toolbox of available actions. All it took to scare off some cattle rustlers was pointing my gun at them. More belligerent trouble-makers could easily be disarmed with a well-placed shot, and if they still didn't feel like running they could be wrestled to the ground and knocked unconscious. And this was before I was given the lasso, which is originally for breaking in wild horses but works just fine on people too. Folks can be intimidated, knocked out, humiliated, scared, tied up, carried, untied--all without being murdered. Any combination of these things usually gets the job done, and the job is usually trying to maintain some semblance of order in an already fairly civilized (by video game standards) world. Probably the biggest irony of Red Dead Redemption is that its vision of a frontier civilization feels more peaceful and less violent than most video game worlds. The countryside isn't overwhelmingly hostile like it is in virtually all other open world games. Animals largely mind their own business, and most of the people you meet are friendly. You will occasionally encounter a hungry pack of wolves or some bandits, but these are always the exception, not the rule. You'll hear gunshots often in the distance, but you can simply mind your own business and go along your merry way. Life's too short, after all. And the open sky too beautiful.

If you enjoy the open sea, there are surrounding lakes and the nearby Gulf of Mexico, perfect for launching any nautical adventure you can envision. The full service marina is onsite and equipped with Jet Ski and sailboat rentals or Scuba diving and snorkeling tours. The possibility to bask in the sun or launch a fishing trip right from a resort is rare, though at Wyndham Destin Bay Club II this is commonplace. In a lovely part of Florida, they are very beach oriented, without the congested Disney Park crowd, or the hyperactive Orlando city.
With dozens of restaurants of fine cuisine and shopping centers with over 40 shops, you and yours can enjoy a day out on the town and never visit the same place twice. There are miles of beaches for sunbathing or a romantic moonlit walk. The peninsula that juts out into the gulf stretches from Point Washington to Fort Walton Beach. The waterfront in Destin is noted for its sugary, white sands and warm Gulf of Mexico waters. Located on what is commonly described as Florida's Emerald Coast, the beaches are ideal for swimming, sunbathing and taking long strolls. They are considered among the most pristine in the entire state, giving rise to the development of this area as a major attraction. The Destin area offers some great opportunities for fishing fanatics. The waters here are generally rich with mackerel, pompano, whiting and more. Shore fishing presents many opportunities, but some prefer taking charter trips or renting boats to increase their chances for big catches. In addition to fishing, the area is great for skiing, diving, snorkeling and more. Destin's many resorts offer full 18-hole courses. Some of the noted courses in the area include the Emerald Bay Golf Club, the Fort Walton Beach Golf Club and the Bluewater Bay Resort. With warm Florida days and balmy Gulf breezes, many find the golfing here rivals any other destination in the world. This is a big enough attraction here that many charter companies offer trek into the Gulf strictly to spot these playful, aquatic mammals. Although a bit of a hike from the state's most famous theme parks, there are still a few stops worthy of exploring in the Emerald Coast region. The U.S. Air Force Armament Museum at Eglin Air Force Base is a major draw as is Big Kahuna's Water & Adventure Park. The park features a number of slides, go-karts and more. The Destin area is noted for its many stores, boutiques and souvenir outlets. Visitors here will find an open-air atmosphere at the Destin Commons, plenty of shops at Destin's Harborwalk and regular mall shopping at stops like the Shoreline Village Mall and the Silver Sands Factory Stores. The Destin area is home to a number of restaurants, special events, museums and galleries. The beach area, for example, plays host to a number of events, including Boat Week. While leaving the beaches of Destin is difficult, some find a few nearby spots worth exploring. Some of the regional sites include Florida Caverns, Eden State Gardens and the Gulf Breeze Zoo.
Theme Park World Sim Theme Park Video and Theme Songs
This video shows the theme songs and some pictures of the four different "worlds" in the game Theme Park World (U.S: Sim Theme Park). The different islands are called "Lost Kingdom", "Halloween World", "Wonderland" and "Space Zone". The first parks you can enter are "Lost Kingdom" and "Halloween World". You only need one golden key for those parks. Then, after three golden keys: "Wonderland". And after five golden keys: "Space Zone". The game was designed by Bullfrog.
I really recommend this game because it's such great fun, and Bullfrog has made many more great games as well, such as Theme Hospital, and the sequel to this game: Theme Park Inc.

Amusement park in running for socks-on-line world record
t starts at the entrance and goes past the attractions and all the way along the walkways,” said a proud spokeswoman at the Tripsdrill Amusement Park near Heilbronn, Baden-Württemberg.
The washing line, with socks pegged on all the way along, runs for 2,324.08 metres which should easily beat the official record of 2,013.75 metres.
Visitors to the park have been asked to bring socks to contribute – or give up the ones they were wearing – with more than 10,000 pairs having been donated.
“Most are in good condition, but there are also some with holes. It’s very colourful here,” said the spokeswoman.
The exact number of socks will be counted on Monday while the park’s managers hope for official confirmation of the record from a representative of the Guinness Book of Records.
The spokeswoman did not say why they decided on the socks-on-line record.
Theme park news this summer: Harry Potter, Disneyland's World of Color
NEW YORK, N.Y. — The biggest news in the theme park world this summer is the June 18 opening of the long-anticipated Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando in Florida.
But plenty of other new attractions await theme park fans elsewhere, including a unique water-and-lights spectacle called World of Color, opening June 11 at Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif., and the reopening of the King Kong attraction at Universal Hollywood in Los Angeles.
Other highlights this season include Shoot the Rapids, a 640-metre-long water ride at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio, with a 26-metre drop that simulates whitewater rapids, opening May 29; and a couple of coasters named Intimidator, inspired by NASCAR great Dale Earnhardt's nickname. One Intimidator opened in March at the Carowinds park on the borders of North and South Carolina, standing 23 storeys high and reaching speeds of 120 kilometres an hour. The other opened in April at Kings Dominion park in Doswell, Va., with speeds of over 145 km/h and a height of 93 metres.
Universal's Wizarding World of Harry Potter was created with input from author J.K. Rowling and set designers from the Harry Potter movies. The level of detail is impressive, with butter beer served at Three Broomsticks Inn restaurant, magic wands for sale at Ollivander's shop, and puffs of steam rising from the Hogwarts Express train.
The marquee ride at Wizarding World, called Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, is located in a castle housing Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Even the line to reach the ride is designed to be entertaining: Visitors walk through the castle dungeon, a gallery filled with magical talking portraits, headmaster Albus Dumbledore's office, a Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom, and the Gryffindor House common room, where a Quidditch match takes place. The ride is a magical flight with Harry and friends.
Two other roller coasters, Flight of the Hippogriff and Dragon Challenge, are located outdoors at the Harry Potter site, which is on eight hectares of Universal's Islands of Adventure park.
Disneyland's big news this summer, World of Color, is an after-dark production at its California Adventure park. The 25-minute outdoor World of Color show will feature water effects, lasers, fire, fog, surround-sound, and animation from Disney classics like "The Little Mermaid," ''The Lion King," ''Pocahontas," ''Toy Story" and others. Nearly 1,200 fountains will shoot water from nine to 60 metres into the air, synchronized with flame projections, lasers and other special effects. Images will be shown against a wall of water forming a projection screen 115 metres wide by 15 metres high.
Universal's King Kong is scheduled to be open by July Fourth as part of the backlot tram tour at the Hollywood park. The original attraction burned down in 2008 but has been reconceptualized as King King 360 3-D. The new Kong was created by Peter Jackson, who directed the "King Kong" 2005 movie remake. Riders will be in a motion simulator, surrounded by a 7.5-metre-tall Kong battling dinosaurs, as their tram appears to slide to the edge of a bottomless chasm. Two giant screens flank the tram — each measuring over 52 metres, the equivalent of 16 movie theatre screens.
"You'll find yourself right in the middle of the action," Jackson said in a press release.
Elsewhere, Busch Gardens Williamsburg in Virginia, celebrating its 35th year, opened a flight simulator attraction May 1 called Europe in the Air. Guests sit on a moving platform, creating the illusion that they are flying over landmarks like Stonehenge, a German castle and the Colosseum in Rome, all projected on a giant screen.
The variety of new attractions at parks this season is notable, with unusual themes and technology being used to create experiences like Europe in the Air, Cedar Point's whitewater simulator and Disney's World of Color.
"Creativity has always been a cornerstone of our industry," said David Mandt, a spokesman for the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA). "Our designers spend a lot of time and energy coming up with new ways to give guests new experiences that they can't have in every day life. And that's fundamentally what a theme park experience provides — the opportunity to escape and experience a new world or new adventure."
An oldie but goodie, Coney Island in Brooklyn, N.Y., is scheduled to open a revamped Luna Park over Memorial Day weekend, with four new attractions among its 19 rides.
Fans of Kiddieland, the longtime Chicago-area park that closed last fall, will be happy to hear that its vintage, figure-eight wooden coaster, The Little Dipper, was bought by Six Flags and is getting a second life at the Great America park in Gurnee, Ill.
At Holiday World and Splashin' Safari in Santa Claus, Ind., a new water coaster called Wildebeest has opened. At about half a kilometre long, it is one of the world's longest water coasters.
In Las Vegas, the city's tallest building, the Stratosphere tower, has opened SkyJump Las Vegas. Visitors use a cable to jump to a target 253 metres down with views of the Las Vegas Strip along the way. The ride was certified by Guinness World Records as the highest of its kind.
Earlier this spring, Dollywood opened the Adventure Mountain challenge course in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. Pigeon Forge is also now home to a permanent Titanic Museum Attraction, similar to an exhibit about the doomed ship that has appeared in many venues around the country. Visitors are given a ticket with the name of a passenger as they enter; they learn the fate of the passenger as they leave.
Other attractions in IAAPA's annual listing of what's new at theme parks include:
—Dorney Park in Allentown, Pa., Demon Drop, the park's first free-fall attraction.
—Kennywood in West Mifflin, Pa., Sky Rocket, a new launch coaster that goes from zero to 80 km/h in less than three seconds.
—Nickelodeon Universe inside Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn., Brain Surge, named for the Nickelodeon game show, with cars that riders control as they spin.
—Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, Calif., Mr. Six's DanceCoaster, a family-friendly roller coaster built to look like dancing shoes.
—Santa Cruz Beach and Boardwalk in Santa Cruz, Calif., Haunted Castle, a dark ride.
—Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, Mo., Snoopy's Hot Summer Lights, an immersive light and sound experience featuring "Peanuts" characters and more than two million lights.
—Magic Kingdom, Walt Disney World, near Orlando, "Summer Nightastic!" a nighttime parade with new or enhanced floats featuring characters such as Tinker Bell, Pinocchio, and Snow White.
—Busch Gardens Tampa Bay in Florida, a Sesame Street-themed playland.
—California's Great America in Santa Clara, Calif., Planet Snoopy, based on the Peanuts cartoon characters.
—Six Flags America in Bowie/Mitchellville, Md. (near Washington D.C.), Thomas Town, based on Thomas the Tank Engine and the show "Thomas and Friends."

Amusement Park Ride Seats
Summer vacations, state fairs, and tourist regions are known for their fast food and their fast rides. This is a great time for those not weight challenged. Just the thought of going on such an adventure can cause kids to scream with excitement, while their fat friends and relatives scream in horror of the thought of being turned away from the ride. One time I remember getting in a ride car with one of those metal lap bars that comes down for the restraint and having the attendant ask to raise my arms, cross my legs and suck in my gut while he pushed and even sat on the bar until it locked into position. That was not fun, but at least I was able to go on the ride.
Everyone knows someone who was told they were too fat to go on a ride and most fat people can laugh about it as long as it’s not them. Having a pimply faced teenager send a fat person away would bring much sadness to a fat person. They would most likely eat an enormous amount of fried food to help with the pain because as we all know…food makes it all better.
There are two signs for fat folk to look for when hitting the amusement parks. They are weight limits, and waist limits. Sometimes it’s not the weight of the person but the size of the gut. Can the safety bar lock in place or does ones lard belly bumper prevent it from locking? When looking for the appropriate signage be sure that you can read through the lines. Amusement parks will try and make it politically correct by saying “guests of exceptional size.” This may confuse the uneducated fat person.
Here’s a sample from an amusement parks website:
“Guests of exceptional size may not be accommodated on some of our rides. This may apply, but not be limited to, men who exceed 6’2″, or those who exceed 225 pounds, have a 40″ waistline or 52″ chest or females who exceed 200 pounds or wear size 18 or larger. Each person has different body proportions so it is not possible to list exact size and weight.”
Really someone needs to make the ultimate Fat friendly amusement park, and just design the rides for the likes of baby elephants as this would ensure plenty of room for the fatty’s. I’m thinking more like reinforced inflatable rides for large adults. We can also replace the child’s ball pit with perhaps a large pool of barbequed ribs. Really who wants to go on thrill rides when you can eat yourself out of a pool of ribs?
Adventure Island,Visit Adventure Island

Z Force, Sidewinder and Cyclone Rider are the famous rides. But then the safety measures are also stringent - and the staff smart.
Then there is a bridge resembling the San Francisco's Golden Gate - separating the island from a plush mall. The Metro Walk - that is what this two tier shopping complex is called - is a array place to fill your bags with all the goody stuff. This retail development has both a fun / amusement / impulse driven retail mix as well as convenience shopping options for an extended catchment area. It overlooks a large lake which acts as the separator between the mall building and the park. park.InIn addition to the rides there is a whole range of world class coffee house and shopping houses like Costa Coffee and Benetton.
